To me there are numerous emotions in this poem, it starts out somber, with just a tapping and it works up to curiosity of who could be knocking, then it goes to into marvelling at the creature that came in through the window and who sits there, to accusations, saying the bird is the devil, such an array of emotions and so wonderfully put. Only Poe can do that.

Annabel Lee is a true love story, from start to finish, from life to death. It goes to show that no matter what others may say, the love of ones heart is what will direct and keep them. There was no going astray from Annabel Lee, she was in his heart forever. Such smooth lines and graceful words, just like that of a beautiful lady whom he had fell in love with.

UPDATE:

Got to meet the author of "The Culling" and pick his brain, I think it was way cool to meet an author, as this was my first, felt like a little kid getting that special christmas gift! After the question answer session, there was a better understanding on how he came up with the idea for the book and the characters of the book. I am a picky reader and not much grabs my attention, but his book did, and I can't wait to get the second and third book!

  1. I also agree with this being a real true love story. I loved the compassion he had for Annabel Lee. Literally from little kids till she passed away. Even then he still had love of her. He tried his hardest to show us that even if they were little kids, their love was very powerful. He described his love stronger than older and wiser individuals. She will forever be the love of his life. But knowing Poe, he writes very dark and this really didn't seem like his typically poem. Poe writes really dark and I actually found the only creepy part in the Poem. If you read the ending, He is actually sleeping next to her dead body almost everynight. He still hasn't let her go physically or mentally.

  2. Yes Poe is an exemplar writer. There this style he has that summons emotion like no one else can in such an eerie atmosphere built in and around the story. I like how you said for "Annabel Lee" it was a complete love story from life and death of the story. Nicely put,

  3. Poe has always been an aspiring poet and til this day his legacy of writing keeps becoming more in depth and captivating than ever before, by far these are two of my favorite of Poe and yes I would agree that Annabel Lee is a true love story in its own unique way.
